Mr. Nelson Wong is Vice Chairman and President of the Shanghai Centre for RimPac Strategic and International Studies, a non-government think tank based in China. He is an expert of the Valdai Discussion Club, a Moscow-based think tank, and writes a political column in the Middle East Eye, a London-based media outlet. He is also a regular news commentator on international TV and print media and a popular speaker at international forums and conventions including the Valdai Discussion Club events in Russia, the Abu Dhabi Strategic Debate in the UAE, and the annual conventions of Gallup International Association, a Swiss-based global network of polling firms across four continents. In parallel, Mr. Wong is Chairman and Managing Director of ACN Worldwide, a global business and investment consultancy, and is also an Independent Director and Audit Committee Chairman of two public companies listed on Nasdaq, namely Recon Technology and Oriental Culture Group.
Mr. Wong graduated from the PLA Institute of International Relations in 1983 in Nanjing, China, and was a lecturer in a military academy for three years before immigrating to Hong Kong in 1986 to pursue his career in business. In 1992, Mr. Wong formed a consortium with a select group of investors in Hong Kong and South East Asia and bought out one of the oldest chartered surveying firms in Hong Kong, the Vigers group, which was first established in the UK some 200 years ago. He sold his stake in Vigers at the end of 1995 and resigned as the group’s Vice Chairman and Global Chief Executive to establish the ACN Worldwide group of companies since when he has remained self employed. With over 30 years of leadership experience in cross-border investment and corporate management, Mr. Wong is a well respected industry expert with a successful track record in real estate investment, project finance, mergers and acquisitions, and has personally facilitated and led more than 100 large and complicated business transactions worldwide.
